For several years, Avenue Living has been reimagining a longstanding tower in downtown Edmonton into The SunRise, a beacon of sustainable, modern living. Taken back to its concrete core and rebuilt with purpose, the 12-storey high-rise now stands as a model for how purposeful reinvestment and innovation can come together to create something truly extraordinary.

But The SunRise isn’t just a place to live — it’s also a world record–breaking piece of art

The SunRise proudly holds a Guinness World Record for the largest solar panel artwork, featuring over 2,000 solar panels integrated into its exterior. This breathtaking mural, titled “The Land We Share,” was designed by acclaimed Indigenous artist Lance Cardinal, whose work brings vibrant meaning and deep cultural roots to the Edmonton skyline.

Take a look at the largest solar panel artwork in the world, recognized by Guinness World Records.

Standing an impressive 26 metres (85 feet) tall, the mural isn’t just a visual statement; it’s a message of the land we occupy.

“I’m excited to bring First Nations and Chinese representation to this beautiful building,” says Cardinal. “To honour both cultures, we were inspired by the animals of the seven sacred grandfather teachings of the Cree tradition and the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. This mural depicts these creatures living together in unity — seeing each other and sharing the same space within one harmonious community.”

Beyond its stunning exterior, The SunRise offers 179 modern rental suites designed for comfort and connection. Residents enjoy open-concept layouts, natural light, and contemporary finishes, with rents starting at $996 per month. The building has many amenities, including a fitness centre, co-working space, community kitchen, and outdoor terrace to help foster a sense of belonging and convenience for everyone from students to young professionals to new Canadians.
