Swift Current, Sask. is a small place, home to 17,000 people, it has that warm, small town feeling, and everyone knows everyone. That's why having a Leasing Specialist like Misty Irwin is such an asset. She is known for going above and beyond for her residents.

Working during the Coronavirus pandemic, Irwin says the virus has changed the way she has to work to ensure safety, but it hasn't changed her natural tendency to do more for people every day.

"I do create the relationship with residents when they are looking for the right place to live, but I help with other tasks too. I call the maintenance guys. I submit work orders. But when it's a small task, I help residents myself," says Irwin. "It takes less time, and the resident is happy. I leave knowing I've done good."

Because of Irwin's social personality, her residents know her well, and most will admit they live with Avenue Living Communities (ALC) because they feel welcome and at home with her. This is something that gets around in a small city, as most know Irwin is your go-to for a rental apartment in Swift Current.

"I had a resident moving from Regina. He had seen some a couple walking, and he asked them 'Where is a good place to rent in Swift Current?' I was going into a building across the street. The couple says, 'See that lady over there? Her name is Misty, go talk to her.'"

Examples of Irwin's 'Duty of Care' is shown in her work daily. Throughout the pandemic, she visited residents' suites with a debit machine for payments, and her tablet for renewals, while also ensuring residents knew that she is always there for them. That is something that she is very vocal about from day one.

"We make sure that at a time like this, our residents are looked after. They know they can speak to us any time and that we're here for them," says Irwin. "I always tell residents from day one, 'you can call me any time,' and believe me, some do. I stay pretty open with them."

Her kindness does not go unnoticed. Recently, Irwin helped an elderly resident move to another suite. Irwin was taken aback when she was gifted flowers, but it's these moments that keep her and her team going.

"We all work together," says Irwin. "We are a really good team. For me, I make sure everyone is happy. I aim to exceed our residents' expectations. I am readily available, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And when I say that, it's not an exaggeration, that's just how it is."

In an effort to ensure food security in ALC's communities, the company donated $100,000 to food banks across the prairies. In Swift Current specifically, ALC donated $2,500 to The Salvation Army, where Irwin was present for the cheque presentation. A social post on ALC's Facebook page had dozens of comments from residents that echoed resident satisfaction with Irwin's dedication.

"Good job Misty! You're always so helpful and passionate about your work," writes one resident. Other comments mention Irwin's commitment, her efficient and professional demeanor, and her openness and direct personality.

"I build a good rapport with our residents," says Irwin. "I think they think I'm pretty funny. I'm always around, and we get chatting. It's usually just an initial conversation, and if they need something, I'm like, 'yeah no problem.'"

ALC's current promotion, Summertime Savings, has savings of up to $1,000 a year, plus you can receive one month free in select buildings in Swift Current for a limited time.  Find out more by calling the call centre at 1-855-247-1492 or Misty Irwin at 306-750-0812.
